Costs Reimbursed

Students and staff at UZH

All costs must be reasonable, and only actual costs incurred are reimbursed. They are applied for at the outset of a cooperation project and reimbursed afterwards based on paid receipts. The applicant or UZH institute and/or partner institution usually contribute 30-50% to the total financial costs and administrative costs. An application can be submitted for reimbursement of the following costs:

  • For professors, postdocs and administrative staff:
    • Visa, up to maximum CHF 100.-
    • Medical provisions, up to maximum CHF 200.-
    • Travel costs, up to maximum CHF 2,000.- (economy class flight, reasonable means of transport)
    • Hotel stay at medium-priced hotel
    • Material costs, if planned for in the budget of the specific funding instrument
  • For doctoral candidates:
    • Visa, up to maximum CHF 100.-
    • Medical provisions, up to maximum CHF 200.-
    • Travel costs, up to maximum CHF 2,000.- (economy class flight, reasonable means of transport)
  • For students:
    • Flight costs, up to maximum CHF 1000.-

A person’s maximum duration of stay and the project’s maximum budget are set out in the regulations for the specific funding instrument.

The following costs are not reimbursed:

  • Wages
  • Cost of food
  • Insurance costs (except for flight cancellation insurance)

Students and Staff at a University/Research Institute in Africa

All costs must be reasonable, and only actual costs incurred are reimbursed. They are applied for at the outset of a cooperation project and reimbursed afterwards based on paid receipts. The applicant or UZH institute and/or partner institution usually contribute 30-50% to the total financial costs and administrative costs. An application can be submitted for reimbursement of the following costs:

  • For professors, postdocs, doctoral candidates, and administrative staff:
    • Visa, up to maximum CHF 100.-
    • Travel costs, up to maximum CHF 2,000.- (economy class flight, reasonable means of transport)
    • Stays up to one month’s duration: Living costs, up to maximum CHF 2,000.- (includes stay at medium-priced hotel and per diem of CHF 60.-)
    • Stays after one month: Living costs, up to maximum CHF 2,000.- per month
  • For students:
    • Visa, up to maximum CHF 100.-
    • Travel allowance, up to maximum CHF 1,500.-
    • Living costs, up to maximum CHF 1,800.- per month
