A Common Understanding of Internationalization
The International Relations Commission was first convened in 2003 by the Extended Executive Board of the University, with the mission of strengthening the international standing of the University of Zurich. To this end, the Commission develops the internationalization policy’s strategic priorities and the corresponding plan of action. The Commission’s key policy tasks are as follows:
- Clarify needs of the faculties
- Ensure regular information exchange with the faculties
- Develop strategic priorities in teaching, research, and mobility, and draft the corresponding action plan
- Process incoming applications
- Submit applications to the Executive Board of the University, particularly in reference to the establishment of strategic priorities and their corresponding actions. The Extended Executive Board of the University takes decisions on academic issues
Members of the Commission
The Commission is made up of representatives of the faculties and the bodies represented in the Extended Executive Board of the University and is presided over by the Vice President for Law and Economics. The International Relations Office acts as operational manager.

In 2013, the Commission developed an internationalization strategy that was approved by the Executive Board of the University on 28 November 2013, following deliberation by the faculties and the bodies represented in the Extended Executive Board of the University.
